Senate Bill Lacking LMHCs Medicare Coverage Sent to Conference with Pro-LMHC House Bill 12/24/09

Early Christmas Eve, the Senate passed H.R. 3590, its health care reform bill. H.R. 3590 lacks any provisions providing for LMHC Medicare eligibility. As the Senate bill is sent to the House for conference, AMHCA urges its membership to continue to push their legislators, in both the Senate and House, for inclusion of LMHC Medicare eligibility in the bodies' final health care reform product.

One Signature from Mental Health Counselor Licensure in California, the Fiftieth State 09/11/09

The mental health counseling profession has come one signature away from achieving licensure in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. On September 10, 2009, the California Senate passed SB 788, a bill allowing for the licensure of mental health counselors in California. SB 788 now awaits signature by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, so it may be enacted into law.
